Blackpool Magic Convention Guide – Friday

For those of you arriving at Blackpool today, we thought we’d put offer a daily convention guide. After all, Blackpool is the largest magic convention in the world, so navigating the best bits, fitting in some sessioning time as well as socialising can be quite a challenge. Here are our highlights to look out for…

Firstly the dealers hall opens at 11am on Friday. This is your chance to check out all of the new effects that you have seen online in the flesh. Some will stand up to real world performances, others will fall by the wayside. Come over and check out the new look MagicDirect stand! Without a doubt, there will be some exclusive releases for Blackpool, including some of our own, such as Tick Tock. Our advice is to get in early and create a list of the items you may want to buy. All of the dealers will be eager to show you their newest stuff. But if there is a classic that you want to see, just ask us and we’ll be happy to demonstrate it for you.

“Now the first dilemma… Which lecture to watch: Nick Einhorn (1pm) vs. Matthew Wright (1.30pm)?!?”

Now the first dilemma… Which lecture to watch: Nick Einhorn (1pm) vs. Matthew Wright (1.30pm)?!?

Nick is the consumate professional magician. His working knowledge of magic is incredible. If you are looking for real workers effects that instantly reset, pack a huge punch and can be carried in your jacket pockets then this lecture is for you.

Matthew was placed 2nd at FISM last year, his magic is not only highly entertaining but it will completely fool you. He is charismatic and will take you on a heck of a ride. Enjoy.

After one of these lectures, we recommend breaking for lunch around 3pm, find a spot in the Galleon bar and session with you buddies. This is your chance to talk about the new trick you have just learned or play with the gimmick you have just purchased.

At 4pm in the Pavillion theatre, the international close-up magic shows begin. The line-up is great… Simon Lovell is always hilarious and Patrick Lehnen placed 2nd at FISM for card magic, they appear along with Joe Monti, Mark Mason, Jan Logeman, Nic Einhorn, Zeki Yoo and Phil Cass. The Pavillion theatre is quite large, so we recommend getting there early and finding a seat near the front to really enjoy the close-up.

The evenings international gala show begins at 7pm. The Magic of Korea will no doubt feature some incredible acts, however it is 3 hours long, so pace yourselves or you may need to duck out early.

As always… One should finish off the evening with a drink in the Ruskin. This is the hotel that all of the booked ‘artistes’ stay at. It is a great chance to rub shoulders with some of the best magicians in the world and see some incredible magic.
